BINGO: a novel radio telescope to observe dark energy

Michael Peel  -  IF/USP

BINGO is a novel radio telescope that will soon be constructed in Paraíba. With a unique configuration of two 40-metre-class mirrors and a huge focal plane, it will measure baryon acoustic oscillations (BAOs) by statistically measuring neutral hydrogen gas at redshifts between z=0.13 and 0.48, which will improve our understanding of dark energy. I will summarise the science that will be done with the telescope, and give an update on its current status as we head towards the start of its construction later this year.
