The Massive and Distant Clusters of WISE Survey

Our team has recently completed the Massive and Distant Clusters of WISE Survey (MaDCoWS), a program designed to identify massive galaxy clusters at z~1. This search has resulted in a catalog of over 2000 galaxy clusters drawn from the full extragalactic sky, making it the largest existing sample of massive galaxy clusters at this epoch. In this talk I will give an overview of the MaDCoWS survey, including describing the method and characteristics of the resulting sample. I will also present highlights from our follow-up programs targeting subsets of this cluster population, discuss the complementarity of MaDCoWS with other ongoing high-redshift cluster searches. I will conclude with a discussion of prospects for future wide-area galaxy cluster searches extending all the way to the era of formation for the first massive clusters at z~2 with existing and future facilities.
