O Seminário do Departamento de Ciências Atmosféricas será apresentado por Sebastien Lebonnois (Laboratoire de Meteorologie Dynamique - CNRS, França), em visita ao IAG por convite da Profa. Rosmeri P. Rocha.

Resumo:
With the Venus-Express mission orbiting Venus since 2006, and many new studies currently going-on based on General Circulation Models, the dominant feature of Venus atmospheric circulation, the superrotation, is under active examination.
During this seminar, I will first present some recent activities going on with Venus-Express datasets, activities that are aimed at updating our knowlegde of the atmosphere of our neighbor planet. Then I will present a comparative study on Venus atmospheric circulation that was conducted recently with a handful of Venus General Circulation Models (GCMs). This study raised some questions about the ability of our current GCMs to predict this circulation, and how to improve the robustness of our tools. I will focus more extensively on the LMD VGCM that we have been developing in Paris: characteristics, results, recent developments and projects. To conclude, I will also show some activity we have in our team to model another superrotating atmosphere: the one of Saturn's satellite Titan.
