PhD fellowship in High Energy Theoretical and Observational Astrophysics
We invite applications for FAPESP (Sao Paulo Research Foundation) 4-year PhD fellowships at Instituto de Astronomia, Geofisica e Ciencias Atmosfericas of University of Sao Paulo (IAG-USP) to work with Elisabete de Gouveia Dal Pino and her group on the FAPESP funded project “Investigation of High Energy and Plasma Astrophysics Phenomena: Theory, Numerical Simulations, Observations, and Instrument Development for the Cherenkov Telescope Array (CTA)”.The goal is to study magneto-hydrodynamics and high energy phenomena in stars, compact sources (black holes, supernovae, pulsars), galaxies and clusters of galaxies employing analytic and numerical techniques, and also get deeply involved in the CTA and ASTRI-CTA Mini-Array Projects.
IAG-USP is a leading Institute of excellence in Astrophysics and Cosmology in Brazil and Latin America, with a staff of 32 professors, 30 postdocs, over 60 graduate students, andan international visitors program. The successful candidates will have access to excellent computing infrastructure.
Selected applicants will be granted 4-year PhD FAPESP fellowships. These are tax-free with a salary of up to 3,105 Brazilian reais/month and pay moving costs. Generous benefits and funds for travel, computers, etc, are also provided.
