Airport Bus Service

The São Paulo International Airport called "Guarulhos Airport" is about 25 kilometers from the São Paulo downtown. You have two options to go to the hotel: the first and more expensive is to get a cab, it'll cost you something about R$ 80,00 (~ $40,00).

The second choice, and less expensive is to catch the Airport Bus Service. It's a special shuttle bus to some specific points in the city. Your hotel (reserved by IRIS) is at 600m from the Eldorado Shopping Mall. There is one line (line 5) of the Airport Bus Service that goes direct from the Airport to the Shopping costing R$ 24,00 (~ $12,00)

To catch this bus, you have to buy the ticket at the Airport Shuttle bus office before going to the bus stop indicated. Depending on time and traffic conditions this trip will take 40 minutes to one hour.

The bus company that delivers this service has an English homepage at:

The payment can be made with the following Credit Cards: Visa, Visa Electron, JCB, Redeshop, Mastercard, Dinners e American Express. Below is the shedule for the Eldorado line.

At the Eldorado Shopping, you can take a cab to the hotel (~R$15,00), or walk if you carry a light baggage.

Cabs

The cabs in São Paulo run 24hr a day. There's one price during the day, and another one during the night. The cab driver must ask you to pay the exact number as show in the meter. You can give him a tip if you want but it's not usual.

A trip from the airport to the hotel will be R$ 80,00 depending on time of the day and traffic, so we recommend using the Airport Shuttle Bus service. There is no subway station near the Airport.

When you get a cab you have to pay by mileage, plus one "ride start" called "bandeirada", the prices are as follow:

Start of the ride: (it's is called "bandeirada" ): R$ 3,20
Mileage:
  • R$ 1,80 Monday to Saturday, from 6am to 8pm
  • R$ 2,34 Monday to Saturday, from 8pm to 6am, Sunday and holiday all day

A taxi ride from the Hotel to the university will be arround R$20,00.

Transport from the University to the Hotel

A bus will bring you from the hotel to the University Campus in the morning (probably at 8am), and will bring you back in the evening (probably at 06pm).

The ride from the hotel to the university should not take more than 25 minutes but may change depending on traffic conditions. This shuttle bus will be provided by the workshop.

City Bus

City buses cost R$ 2,00 each trip. The payment can be made directly in bus with money. Inside the bus there's always a driver and a charger man, just be advised that the maximum change you can have is R$ 10,00, so always carry changed money with you. The city buses start running at 5AM and stops arround midnight (12PM).

In São Paulo some large avenues (like Av. Rebouças) have an exclusive city bus lane. In this case the city bus stops are placed at the center of the avenue. Buses in exclusive lanes are much faster.

Subway (Metrô)

We have 4 subway lines (red, blue, green and purple). They cover all the central area of the city and some surroundings. It's the safest way of transportation in São Paulo, the stations and trains are clean, safe, fast and cover many of the interest points in the city.

Each trip costs R$ 2,10 and you can go from one station to any other inside the line. There are some points where you can change from the metrô to the CPTM (surface trains, not so secure must say). The subway works from 5AM in the morning to 12PM in the night (just like the bus services).

Metrô Sign

The campus and the hotel are not near any subway line. Below is a metrô map, note that the stations are named by their neighborhood, this map can be downloaded and printed at full resolution as a PDF image.

If you that want to go downtown we suggest the Sé station, that is under the Sé square, or the Anhangabau station. If you want to go to the Paulista Avenue take the green line, and drop down at the Trianon-Masp station. This station is at the side of the MASP (Art Museum of São Paulo).
