Cosmology with gravitational waves

The direct discovery of the existence of gravitational waves (GW) by the LIGO and VIRGO team opens a new observation window and chapter in the modern astronomy, with a wide spectrum the possibility to explore fundamental physics. On the other hand, approximately 95% of the energy content of the Universe is unknown, the so-called dark sector of the Universe. Such sector is known to be consist from dark matter and dark energy (or modifications in the general relativity theory), which constitutes one of the greatest open problem in contemporary physics. In this seminar, I will briefly review some aspects in GWs physics and how such observations played an important role in describing the dark sector of the Universe and how information from the GWs physics can help or even play decisive role in solving it as well as other current issues in cosmology.
