Habitability Metrics for Astrobiology

Rolando Cárdenas

Universidad Central de las Villas - Cuba

Habitability metrics have been devised by ecologists since the 1970's. On the other hand, in recent decades the continuous discovery of exoplanets has stimulated the development of such metrics for Astrobiology, including spatial and temporal scales atypical for ecological studies. In this talk, it is reviewed the emergent topic of Quantitative Habitability for Astrobiology. In particular, it is included the issue of modeling the habitability of planetary subsurfaces, something relatively overlooked in many previous studies. Finally, some considerations for the Habitability of the Milky Way are presented.
