SEMINÁRIO EXTRA DO DEPARTAMENTO DE ASTRONOMIA
Persistent Homology as a Multiscale Observable: From Quasiperiodic Spectra to Stellar Variability
a talk by Gabriel Wendell Celestino Rocha (UFRN/Brazil) - In-person
Abstract:
"Complex physical systems often produce data whose relevant structure lies not in individual measurements, but in how geometric patterns organize and evolve across multiple scales. In this seminar, I will present persistent homology and topological data analysis as a framework for constructing multiscale observables from spectra, fields, trajectories, and time series."
Short-Bio:
PhD candidate in Physics at UFRN. Works in computational physics, topological data analysis, and machine learning, investigating topological and geometric methods to characterize physical systems at different scales, with applications in astrophysics.
