On October 24, 1972, the IAG-USP Commission of Post-Graduate met for the first time in it's former headquarters located in Água Funda, where currently operates the Science and Technology Park (Parque de Ciência e Tecnologia).

The IAG graduate programs reach nationally and internationally levels of excellence. The evaluation of CAPES (Educational Improvement Coordination for Graduate People) confirms this excellence: In the last ten years the astronomy program maintains grade 7 (seven), the meteorology program has grade 7 (seven) and the geophysical program has grade 5 (five).

The graduate programs are characterized by full-time dedicated professors to teaching and research. We have 33 professors in astronomy, 20 in geophysics and 18 in meteorology. In recent years, the number of graduate students has been around 150 students, 90% grantee students. Up to October 2005 were produced 374 Master's dissertation and 223 PhD thesis.

Today, located in the Armando Sales de Oliveira University City , IAG offers great resources to subsidize the production of researchs, such as specialized laboratories and a specialized library that has more than 60,000 items between books, maps, theses, journals and magazines.
