Teaching Improvement Program (PAE)

The Teaching Improvement Program (regulated by Portaria GR 3588, de 10 de maio de 2005) is aimed exclusively to students enrolled at USP's Graduate Programmes. The PAE Guidelines were approved by PAE Central Committee on May 29, 2019.

PAE is optional for mandatory for Graduate students who receive CAPES' Demanda Social Scholarship, and optional for all other students.

Its main goal is to prepare the graduate student for teaching at Undergraduate level. The program has a two-stage format: Pedagogical Preparation and Supervised Internship in Teaching.

1st stage: Pedagogical Preparation

This stage may fall on three different formats, as chosen by the institution:

  1. a standalone Graduate discipline offered by the institute, with topics about the Higher Education and about USP;
    obs.: at IAG, the discipline is IAG5900 - Preparação Pedagógica, to which the student must request enrollment according to the Programme's calendar.
  2. a conference series about Higher Education with experts, condensed within a shorter timeframe;
  3. a set of activities coordinated by faculty members, involving courseware preparation, curricular debates and syllabus planning.

2nd stage: Supervised Internship

This stage must be specifically linked to a Undergraduate discipline. The student must apply to a discipline at an area pertainining to their subject.

  • Applications must be made between October and November (for disciplines taught on odd semesters) and between April and May (for disciplines taught on even semesters).
  • To apply, the student must access the Janus system, using the options: PAE > Inscrição, selecting the semester and year, option "Adicionar/Alterar", and then fill out and save the form.
  • Important notice: The student is responsible for filling out the form correctly and within the application period.

The participants who properly complete the Program may receive a certificate. The institute's Committee of Graduate Studies may also confer course credits.
