ALMA and the future of submm astronomy

The status of ALMA will be presented, its development program and recent results. Followed with a summary of the results achieved with the Herschel satellite and its Heterodyne Instrument for the Far-Infrared. Concluding with the plans for future ground based and space missions for far Infrared and submm astronomy.
