Ram pressure stripping in galaxies that cross a cold front

Ram pressure stripping removes gas from galaxies as they move through the ICM. Merging clusters often display cold fronts, such as sloshing spirals, where the gas is cooler and denser than its surroundings. We wish to explore the effects of a galaxy crossing sharp contact discontinuities. We performed hydrodynamical N-body simulations using the moving mesh code Arepo. The simulated galaxies experience winds inside a periodic box whose layers of gas represent the densities and temperatures of an idealised cold front. Preliminary results suggest that the rate of stripping might depend strongly on the amplitude of the density discontinuity. Changes in star formation rate were very mild. The upstream gas seems to be compressed by the motion of the galaxy, which causes peaks of ram pressure.
