Seminário: From Building Castles in the Sky to Instant Gratification: The next generation of Major X-ray Missions vs. very modest proposals

 

I attended a meeting sponsored by NASA 14-15 Dec 2011 regarding the next generation of major X-ray observatories. I will give an overview of a few key proposals, and demonstrate that a major break throughs will require technological advances that are within reach (including one of my own). I will then describe the opportunities on the horizon for very (dare I say $1M??) inexpensive missions.
